Summer Science Club Workshops
Whitelee Windfarm Visitor Centre will once again be holding their Summer Science Club Workshops throughout July and the start of August.
The theme this year is 'What on Earth' and each workshop will investigate a different aspect of our lives and history on Earth.
Week 1 will be 'What on Earth' is Weather where participants will learn about what is the difference between weather and climate? Why is it sunny during summer and snowy during winter and why does it matter? How important is our climate and why do we need to protect it. We'll learn all about the weather and craft our own weather vane so we always know which way the wind is blowing!
Week 2 is What on Earth is the Earth? When did our planet form, what is it made of and how did it come to look like it does today? How do plate tectonics work and why are the continents moving? Discover the answers to these questions and more in this workshop all about planet Earth.
Week 3 is What on Earth are Dinosaurs! Learn all about Dinosaurs! We’ll discuss different species, what happened to the dinosaurs and how fossils are made. We’ll journey through the Triassic, Jurassic before stopping off at the Cretaceous Period to see what we can discover!
Week 4 is What on Earth are Natural Disasters. What goes on below the Earths crust! Why do Volcanoes erupt and the Earth shakes during an Earthquake. Above the Crust why Hurricanes barge across the ocean, Tornados cause havoc on land and Tsunamis crash into the coast. We'll learn what is happening with each of them and how we can predict and prepare for them.
Week 5 is What on Earth are Humans! We are going to learn all about Humans! how Civilizations can grow and Empires crumble. How Humans work and what makes the Human race so successful. From simple Hunter Gatherers to Great Kingdoms, we'll journey through the age of humanity. There are more workshops still to be announced but tickets are already selling well so don't delay and miss out!

Our Whitelee STEM Club provides FREE science-based workshops aimed at children in P4-P7. Workshops run every Saturday at 14:00 in our Learning Hub teaching a range of topics such as Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics. Workshops will last between 30mins to an hour.
Please Note: Our workshops are finished for 2023 and will return in February 2024 with new classes ready for the February break. We can't wait to welcome you back!
Star Nights
We are pleased to be hosting another of our very popular Stargazing Evenings at Whitelee WIndfarm Visitor Centre on the 27th of February 2024 between 19:00 and 21:00. This will be a free event hosted by Whitelee Staff, the Astronomical Society of Glasgow and the Planetarium at Glasgow Science Centre.
This event is designed for people wanting to know more about the stars and how to get into astronomy. Due to the content and activities, this session is not designed for younger children. Therefore all participants are required to be over the age of 14. To accomodate our young budding astronomers there will be Junior Stargazing nights in the Autumn.
Numbers are limited due to the spaces available for the activities. If the weather is dry and clear then there will be outdoor activities but there will also be wet weather alternatives planned. To apply for tickets please contacts us on;
