Education Programme at Whitelee Windfarm

At Whitelee Windfarm Visitor Centre we offer an education programme for Early Years - S4. Linking to the Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) our highly interactive activities promote successful learning by challenging pupils and providing enjoyment through their experiences.

Developed by Glasgow Science Centre, the education programme is a two hour visit, which includes:

  • A main activity / workshop
  • A guided tour of the windfarm
  • Time in our exhibition area

Visits are suitable for a maximum class size of 34* pupils, and a minimum of 10 pupils (normal adult/carer ratios apply).  *Maximum booking for nursery classes is 28 pupils.  

The cost is £2 per pupil.

Education visits run Monday to Friday in two sessions: 10:00 to 12:00 or 12:30 to 14:30.

You can book an education visit from February 1st until December 8th (excluding holidays).

Watts It All About? 
This fun interactive and engaging workshop provides pupils with an introduction to electricity.  It explores what we use electricity for, where it comes from and how it gets to our houses. CfE: Science / Planet Earth / Energy Sources and Sustainability SCN 0-04a & SCN 0-14a


Guided Tour
See real turbines up close and feel the power of the wind on our tour of Whitelee. Find out how a turbine works and more about the environment of the windfarm. 

Exhibition Time
The Visitor Centre has an interactive, hands-on exhibit area that you can explore. Try building your own windfarm, test the power of the wind and take part in our true or false quiz!

Package 2: Wind, Rain or Shine

(P2 - P4)

Wind, Rain or Shine workshop • Guided tour • Exhibition time 

 

Wind, Rain or Shine 
This fun, engaging and hands-on workshop allows pupils to investigate how we use natural resources to generate electricity. The pupils will investigate three renewable energies; wind, hydro and solar.

Package 3: Wind Works

(P5 - S2)

• Wind Works Workshop • Guided tour • Exhibition time

Wind Works 
This highly engaging workshop allows pupils to investigate the design of wind turbines. The pupils will test four different blade shapes to discover which gives the greatest output.

Package 4: The Generation Game

(S3 - S4)

Package 3 consists of:

Generation Game workshop • Guided tour • Exhibition time

Generation Game This highly interactive workshop allows pupils to investigate electromagnetic induction to generate electricity and involves construction of their own generator. 

CfE: Science> Forces, electricity and waves > Electricity / Technologies > Technological developments in society./ Technologies > Craft, design, engineering and graphics contexts for developing technological skills and knowledge.
