Scottish Power Renewables Whitelee Windfarm visitor centre

ScottishPower Renewables would like to thank everyone who entered the Whitelee Windfarm Photograph Competition; with over 200 entries we were very impressed!

Our panel of judges met and deliberated for many hours over the images. On our panel was Susan Deacon, Chairman of ScottishPower Renewables, Brodie Duncan, Pictures Editor at The Herald; and Chris James, a professional photographer.

The judges commented on the high standard of all entries as well as the originality shown in the wide range of shots submitted. It was difficult choosing our winners and now that have, we are delighted to announce them as:

Third prize – Maree Lucas – The judges loved this great landscape shot.

Second prize – Steven McCann – This was thought to be the best example of scale and it made the most of the conditions at Whitelee.

First prize – The Palmer Family – The judges loved the originality, colour, fun and execution of this shot. 

Also featuring in the judges Top Ten are images from; Rick BoltonJohn FarnanChris JohnstoneJon-Marc CreaneyJim Richmond,Scott Russell and Hugh Hume.

Photography Competition

Prizes

There were three fantastic GE cameras up for grabs for the overall winner and two runners up.

First prize was the X5 camera from GE’s Power series (RRP £129.99). The two runners up also won cameras from GE’s Smart series. Second prize is the J1455 camera (RRP £99.99) and third prize is the A1255 model (RRP £69.99).

In addition to these fantastic cameras, the top three images also received family passes to Glasgow Science Centre and goodie bags.

The three winning images will be showcased in Whitelee Windfarm Visitor Centre for all to see.

There was also goodie bags for every image in the Judges Top Ten.

Competition Details

The competition is now closed!! (closed on the 27th October 2010). The theme of the competition was Whitelee Windfarm and this was open to interpretation. The only requirement was that the windfarm featured in your picture. 

Terms and Conditions

  1. The theme of the competition is Whitelee Windfarm. The theme is open to individual interpretation but all photographs must include Whitelee Windfarm. Photographs of people, animals or landscape are permitted so long as Whitelee Windfarm features in the photograph. The photograph(s) may have been taken at any time. No purchase is necessary in order to qualify to enter the competition.
  2. Entries must be taken at Whitelee Windfarm, Eaglesham Moor, Scotland.
  3. Up to five photos in colour or black and white can be submitted per household. Entries should be submitted via email to whiteleephotos@scottishpower.com. Unfortunately, postal entries cannot be accepted.
  4. Images may be digitally enhanced to remove spots or scratches, but not manipulated. Entrants can enhance the picture to make it brighter, clearer etc, but not manipulate the content. ScottishPower Renewables and the judges reserve the right to exclude any image that they believe may have been excessively treated so as to alter its authenticity.
  5. Entrants must include their name and town with their submission. Entrants are permitted to include a description of themselves/the image(s)/their visit to Whitelee Windfarm with their entry. This additional information may or may not be published by ScottishPower Renewables in conjunction with the use of related image(s). By disclosing any information entrants grant permission to ScottishPower Renewables to use this information in online or other publication. ScottishPower Renewables will not disclose the email address of the entrant to third parties. The entrant’s email address will only be used to contact the entrant in relation to this competition and will not be used for marketing purposes.
  6. The competition is open to anyone from any country. Employees of any of the ScottishPower group of companies*, ScottishPower Renewables, The Herald, GE Cameras or Glasgow Science Centre or anyone else directly or indirectly involved in the running or promotion of this competition as well as their immediate families are not eligible to enter. Entrants under the age of 12 years need to have parent or guardian consent to enter.
  7. Entrants must not be professional photographers and, for the purposes of this competition, a professional photographer will be considered to be someone who makes more than half their annual income from the sale of their photographs.
  8. Winners will be contacted by email within 14 days of the competition closing date. Winners’ names will be published online and through Twitter. Winners will be required to supply a delivery address for the delivery of prizes. This address will be used solely for this purpose and will not be used for marketing purposes.
  9. Entries should be submitted via email to whiteleephotos@scottishpower.com. ScottishPower Renewables reserves the right to upload all or selected images submitted to the associated TwitPic site at www.twitpic.com/photos/Visit_Whitelee
  10. The competition will open at 9.00am on Wednesday, 15th September 2010 and closes at 11.59pm on Wednesday, 27th October 2010 in Great Britain. All entries must be received by this closing date and time.
  11.  No responsibility is accepted for entries which are incomplete, lost, corrupt, damaged or delayed. Proof of transmission will not be accepted as proof of receipt.
  12. All entries will be judged by a panel of judges. The judges will select a Top Ten which, in their opinion, best illustrate the theme of the competition. They will consider a range of factors including composition, technical ability, originality, interpretation of the brief and the commercial appeal of the photographs. The overall winner will receive a prize of a GE X5 camera (RRP £129.99). The first runner up will receive a prize of a J1455 camera (RRP £99.99) and the second runner up will receive a prize of an A1255 camera (RRP £69.99). The overall winner and both runners up will also receive prizes of 4 passes each to the Glasgow Science Centre and ScottishPower Renewables will have the right to display their images in the Whitelee Visitor Centre. All images in the Top Ten may, at the discretion of ScottishPower Renewables, also be displayed in the Whitelee Visitor Centre. All Top Ten finalists will receive a ScottishPower Renewables “goodie bag”. The content of the "goodie bag" will be at the discretion of ScottishPower Renewables and no guarantees are given regarding the content of the "goodie bag". The prizes are as stated and are subject to availability. There is no cash alternative and they cannot be transferred. ScottishPower Renewables reserves the right to substitute prizes of equal value in the event that circumstances beyond its control make this unavoidable.
  13. All entries must be the original work of the entrant and must not infringe the rights of any other party. The entrants must be the sole owner of copyright in all photographs entered and are responsible for obtaining all third party permissions to the taking of the photographs and use of those photographs in accordance with these terms and conditions. In particular, you represent and warrant that consent has been obtained from any clearly identifiable person appearing in any image to the taking of the image and the use of that image in accordance with these terms and conditions. Further, entrants must not have breached any laws when taking their photographs.
  14. Entrants must not have offered any of their entries for sale or been paid for any publication of any of their entries. In addition, all images submitted must not have been published elsewhere or have won a prize in any other photographic competition.
  15. Entrants will retain copyright in the photographs that they submit to the competition. By entering the competition all entrants grant to ScottishPower Renewables a royalty-free worldwide, irrevocable, perpetual right to use, publish, reproduce and exhibit any or all of that entrant's submitted photographs in any media format in any of its publications, websites and/or in any promotional or marketing material and to grant such rights to any third party to do same. This may include, but is not limited to, use of the photographs in accordance with paragraph 12 above. No fees will be payable for any of the above uses or for any of the rights granted by entrants hereunder. Entrants whose photographs are one of the Top Ten also agree to take part in post-competition publicity. While ScottishPower Renewables makes every effort to credit photographers, including in printed reproductions of their work, it cannot guarantee that every use of the photographs will include photographers’ names.
  16. By entering, entrants will be deemed to have agreed to be bound by these terms and conditions and ScottishPower Renewables reserves the right to exclude any entry from the competition at any time and in its absolute discretion if ScottishPower Renewables has reason to believe that the entry in inappropriate or the an entrant has breached these terms and conditions.
  17. ScottishPower Renewables reserves the right to cancel this competition or alter any of the rules at any stage, if deemed necessary in its opinion, and if circumstances arise outside of its control.
  18. If any prize winner is unable to be contacted after reasonable attempts have been made, or is unable to accept the prize for any reason, ScottishPower Renewables reserves the right to either offer the prize to a runner up, to re-offer the prize in any future competition, or to cancel the award of the prize.
  19. The judges shall have the final decision. The judges’ decisions are final and no correspondence shall be entered into.
  20. Entry images must be available at sufficiently high resolution so that they can be printed at a standard acceptable for display in printed media.
  21. You represent and warrant that the submitted materials are not obscene.
  22. Scots law applies and the exclusive jurisdiction of the Scottish Courts shall prevail.
